Autumn in Old Bergen + The Discovery of its Coziest Café

On this gloomy Saturday, my younger sister and I decided to take a trip into the city. Instead of hanging around the modern area, we decided to walk along Bergen’s old streets—along Hollendergaten and Lille Øvregate, to the left of Bergen’s beloved Bryggen (the wharf). And if it wasn’t for the smell of newly baked cinnamon rolls, we wouldn’t have chosen this very cozy bookshop café to settle down for lunch, dessert and a cup of chai latte …

Krok & Krinkel Bokcafé is a tiny café along Lille Øvregate, in a cellar a few steps below ground. The atmosphere is that of an inviting living room, filled with the aroma of newly baked cinnamon rolls and freshly brewed coffee. Being a bookshop café, piled-up books in bookshelves along every wall can be read while there, and even purchased upon request. (Kids would enjoy the tall shelf of board games!)

Cozy cafés with a concept like this are common elsewhere. But its setting, along one of the most historic streets in Bergen, adds to its aura, making you feel like you’re taking a slice of Old Bergen with every bite of dessert. ♥
